'A small school with huge opportunities'

This term our exciting topic is ‘Houses and Homes’. We will be looking at how houses are built and what materials are used, different types of houses and also houses around the world. We will be thinking about how a house becomes a home, what each room is used for and how we furnish different rooms.

In literacy we will be reading The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf and also The Three Little Wolves and the Pig Bad Pig and comparing the two stories. We will discover what a story mountain is and how we can use one to write our own story. We will also be working with speech bubbles, exclamation marks and question marks.

Our science looks at different materials and why some are suitable for house building and why some are not. We can look forward to some very interesting investigations and experiments during which we will begin to understand the principles of fair testing.

Our DT project will be to design and build a house or houses and I’m sure we will have some very interesting ideas and products.

The children will continue to have outdoor games with Chanctonbury Leisure on Wednesday afternoons and gymnastics on Friday afternoons so please could they have a named PE kit for these days. If your child has their ears pierced, please could you provide them with either a pot to put their earrings in or some tape so that their ears can be covered for their own health and safety. Wellies and coats are also needed so that we can access the outdoor areas as much as possible.

Can I please ask that every child brings a named water bottle to school.  It can be filled up at school from the water coolers and I will send them home on a Friday for washing. It is extremely important to keep the children hydrated both for their health and for their ability to learn.

I am always happy to discuss any questions or queries that you may have about your child so please feel free to come in and see me. The end of the day is always preferable unless it is something urgent that cannot wait.

Mrs Taylor
